All those who frequent Seasons mall Magarpatta would know there is serious dearth of good dining places. Also people who have been to Hyderabad would know they’re a very popular fine dine restaurant named Khaan Saab, serving North West frontier food. So when Khaan Saab announced their launch in Pune all of us foodies were very happy and they doubled the happiness quotient by revealing the location being Seasons Mall.

We were invited for a pre-launch food tasting. The restaurant has a very sophisticated ambience; it has a grandeur attached to the overall look and feel of the place. You will be made to feel like a Royal Guest true to it’s tag line.

We quickly settled and were served a preset menu from the very elaborate Menu they have. And let me simply put it all the food we tasted was between pretty good and WOW. Another very important thing about food that needs a mention is the vegetarian spread is equally good as the non vegetarian counterpart.

Our meal started with an in-house special drink – Apple Pineapple Panna,  made with grilled fruits and minimal masala, it had a very balanced and fresh taste,  wasn’t over sweet or sour.

Next we had soups – Paya Shorba and Tamatar Tulsi Shorba, both well made. Paya was overnight cooked and was gently spiced, a little more flavor depth could be doable.

The Tamatar Tulsi soup was an absolute delight, tangy enough with no cream added and tulsi elevated the flavors.

After we were done with the appetizers next up was Gosht ke Gappe it had the Gappe or Puri used for Paani Puri and stuffed with Kheema and topped with right amount of Onion, Chutney Dahi and Sev. This is my favorite version of the puri clan from now on, just a delight to have, it was difficult to stop having them.

Tandoori Bharwa Khumb stole the show in veg starters; mushrooms stuffed with a creamy Spinach paste and cooked in Tandoor, very delicate flavoring yet very distinct. Absolutely loved them.

Other starters we had and liked very much were: Paneer Malai Tikka – had a cashew paste marination, Murg Malai Chandi Kebab – a delicately flavored Chicken Tikka with a silver leaf on top. Roti Pe Paneer Ki Boti – a Paneer slice put on a piece of bite size crisp Roti. Sarson Mahi Kebab was could have been much better if basa fish was not used and probably done with some other fish available.

Main Course, I never thought it would ever come to this in my culinary escapades – the show stopper for this course was Zaitooni Baigan Bharta.  Yes the humble bharta humbled everything else on the table and it had pretty tough competition. Amazingly smoky with very complex flavors and perfect texture, if I ever have to order bharta at a restaurant I will do it only at Khaan Saab.

The close second and the non veg winner for us was Rajwada Raj Gosht – A laal maas like preparation with boneless meat pieces cooked to perfection in a not so spicy and flavorful curry.

IMG_5104

Raan e Baluchi was also a very nicely cooked thick masala raan preparation.

IMG_5073

Videshi Sabzi Desi Masala was very appealing preparation of exotic imported vegetables done in a Indian masala that had a tangy after taste.

IMG_5084

Paneer Khurchan and Dal Khaan Saab were also every nicely prepared. Murg Mirch Hara Pyaaz could needs improvement, the taste was very flat.

IMG_5118

Gosht Dum Biryani was a true Hyderabadi delight, nicely spiced and cooked to perfection. The Tadke wala Dahi served with it was something we hadn’t tried before, a must try.

Desserts we were served a jumbo Flambé Gulab Jamun and Qubani ka Meetha, both were very interesting with a variation from the usual ones served elsewhere.

Khaan Saab is here to vow us with their sumptuous food. It is a welcome addition to the food scenario of Pune.
