Independence Brewing Company has won the Times Food Award three times consecutively. They well known for their craft beers but that aside they also serve some excellent food.
The Food Prowl Team was invited for a food tasting especially for the tandoori menu as well as some dishes from the regular menu.
Our meal started with the regular bar nibbles, Corn Chaat that has corn and peanuts tossed with tomatoes and onions, nice tangy bar snack.
Home Fries are extra thick and thinly crisp coated fries served with mayo and ketchup, these are simply unputdownable.
Lahsooni Murg Tikka has juicy chicken tikkas spiced with yellow chilies and roasted garlic and topped with enough crisp fried garlic.
Peshawari Tangdi Kebab, chicken legs done in Indian spices and cheese to add more flavors, with charred edges and tender meat just falling of the bone with slight nudge, it paired well with IPA.
Murg Hariyali Tikka is marinated in a masaledaar and tangy dhaniya pudina chutney, and then cooked in tandoor. High on spice quotient compared to previous ones, and very flavorful and not lacking on tenderness of the chicken.
Fish Amritsari Tikka has good the flavors, it can be much better with a tad more ajwain.
Sarsonwale Jhinga is balanced on the mustard flavors and tastes good.
Tandoori Lamb Chops are flavorful and a treat for taste buds.
Mutton Seekh Kebabs followed the Chops, from a robust on bone dish to delicate seekh. These are smokey and juicy with right level of spices.
Veg Platter has Bharwan Khumb, Achaari Gobhi, Noorani Seekh, Bharwan Aloo and Kalimiri Paneer Tikka. This should impress Vegetarians with the variety in the platter and all prepared very well.
Beef Chilli is a perfect Kerala style beef chili loaded with green chilies and onions.
Independence Burger, a tenderloin patty with a special mustard mayo tastes heavenly. It is served with fries and the burger is humongous.
Golden Fried Chicken Pockets, crumb fried chicken crisp on the outside and stuffed with oozing cheese garlic and mushroom filling. When chicken and cheese come together, its hard to not like it.
Asian Pork Sizzler, slow cooked pork in Asian sauces and chilies, nice robust flavors in a one portion meal including rice and veggies.
Tenderloin Bulgogi (available in chicken option too), char grilled tenderloin with roasted sesame in soy topped with a perfectly half fried egg with a runny yolk, served with rice and veggies, packed with Asian flavors letting the tenderloin be the star.
After all these mains and beers, we had to have all the desserts possible here, as they have a delectable dessert menu that is a not to be missed.
Dark Chocolate Soufflé is the best you’ll get in town, gooey airy soft centered heavenly soufflé with rum infused flavors. Only word of caution, it takes time to prepare so order it early.
Dark Chocolate and Salted Caramel Tart is also very good, and surprisingly pairs very well with dark beers, it has lots of flavor dimensions from bitter dark chocolate to sweet caramel and then its saltiness all packed in a crumbly tart, perfect is the word.
Lemon Orange Tart, having all the fresh citrus flavors with a fabulous crust, the lemon curd is nicely balanced between sour and sweet that can lit the taste buds up.
Apple Pie, fresh caramelized apples flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg, just like a good apple pie should be. All the desserts were served with Vanilla ice cream.
Independence Brewery Company has some excellent craft beers on the tap – Ixcacao and Dark Saison being some of the favorite stouts available.
All in all a very well spent evening with piping hot kebabs from the tandoor, craft beers and those blissful desserts.
Special Thanks to Mr. Husein Upletawala for inviting and hosting us.
