A long awaited plan to Flying Duck finally materialized and we were glad that it did. I called for a reservation for 1:30 PM and it was the owner – Alakesh Baruah who came on the line. As much as he sounded enthusiastic and polite over the call, he was utmost gracious as well when we met him at the restaurant. Playing an excellent host to the hilt, his own passion for food does show when he speaks.
The ambiance, a quaint little place in a quiet by-lane. 2 Tables on inside seating and 4 tables on the outside. We of course, did prefer the inside tables due to the summer heat but nevertheless the outside seating was also not very hot as it has a roof overhead.
Regarding the Food, our main reason to travel all the way from this side of the city in the afternoon heat – there is no need to go into detail on this, as much as we had heard about the food, it was spot on.
Everything cooked to perfection. It does take quiet a bit of time for the dishes to be served and Alakesh mentions that at the very beginning while taking the order which is much appreciated.
Starters: Pork Ribs, Thai Grilled Chicken, Vietnamese Caramelized Chicken. The chicken was soft and tender; very well cooked and one of the best I have had in Pune. Pork Ribs, the flesh just came off the bone easily. It’s marinated for 48 hours!!! These maybe arguably the best pork ribs served in Pune.
Main Course: Quail with Special Sauce and Butter Rice, Chicken with Spicy Sauce and Butter Legume Sauce, Pork with Black Sesame Sauce.
Each and every dish was cooked and presented with excellence. It is very rare that every dish at the restaurant is a joy to have.
Flying Duck left no room for complain in any department. The spices and flavor of the dishes were well balanced.
Lemon Ice Tea was good as well, they don’t use any readymade pre-mix, it’s prepared in house and you can choose between honey or sugar syrup to be added.
Flying Duck will also be introducing a Summer Menu soon which will have lesser number of dishes than the 50+ on the current menu but promises to be an ecstatic affair.
Overall, a MUST visit place for especially Pork lovers and those who want to try Duck and Quail Meat. Weekends are crowded, preferably make a reservation.
